Teaching
Teaching and research by the Chair of Philosophy of Science and Technology focus on current developments in science and technology. Special emphasis is placed on exploring the consequences of the computerization of science and technology (simulation as a new method of knowledge, the automation of research through artificial intelligence, classical research methods being replaced by design and data analysis, etc.).
The curriculum consists of a combination of theoretical courses with courses on case studies and empirical research on most recent developments. To facilitate the implementation of empirical research in the digital sciences, the “Computational Science Studies Lab” (CSS Lab) was founded in 2018 with support from the "Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft" (donors' association for the promotion of humanities and sciences in Germany) and the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Research (NRW Digital Fellowship 2017 for 2018/2019), and RWTH Aachen. The teaching lab is the centerpiece of the chair’s teaching and research. In the lab, we develop methods for empirical science and technology studies in the digital sciences, as well as teaching and study modules that reflect the latest developments in the field.
In addition, the chair presents lectures and seminars on classic theoretical and practical philosophy.
